Change starts here. You are already on your way.

Invest in your relationship with yourself

“We belong to life as much through our sense that it is all impossible as we do through the sense that we will accomplish everything we have set out to do.”

-David Whyte

Whether you are stuck, struggling, in a time of crisis or just want to improve your self awareness, I have found that therapy is an opportunity to break through barriers.  As you begin to understand your story and how that relates to the ways in which you interact with and experience the world, change and growth can (and will) occur. Working with, rather than against our minds is a powerful tool to get where we want to go and become who we want to be. When you care for your mind, body, soul, and spirit you will feel more connected to yourself, others, and the world around you.

The counseling process: how it works

Maybe you’ve tried therapy in the past. Maybe this is brand new. I find that it can be helpful to paint a picture of what this process is like. I have made the paperwork and payment aspect as seamless as possible. Once you schedule an initial session, you will receive an email with your intake paperwork. You can fill all of this out online in the client portal (no printing and scanning required!). This will give me an initial understanding of what brings you to therapy and will also provide you with some relevant information. The first session will feel a little more like a Q&A than subsequent sessions, as I review your intake paperwork with you and start to gain an understanding of who you are and how therapy can be beneficial to you. At the end of the first session, you will decide if you feel that this is a good fit and whether you would like to continue to work together.

In subsequent sessions and as you gain comfortability in the therapeutic space, I tend to let you (the client) lead the content of the sessions while I help you identify patterns and insights. Essentially the two most necessary elements of therapy are first, that you feel as comfortable and safe in the therapeutic setting as possible, and second, that you gain awareness of yourself and how you interact with the world.  I will view you as a whole person, as opposed to a collection of symptoms and diagnoses.  Together we will work to create meaning along with connection, flexibility, and acceptance.

About me

Caroline King, MA, LMHC

I received my BA in psychology from Cornell University and my MA with academic distinction in clinical mental health counseling from Northwestern University. I am currently licensed with the Florida Department of Health as a licensed mental health counselor. Prior to pursuing the counseling field, I spent ten years in the northeast building experience in the culinary, nonprofit, and business worlds. This gave me invaluable perspective that I could not have gotten had I entered the counseling field right away. At the end of 2019, I felt called back to the area of mental health and to my hometown of Ocala, FL where I live with my daughter. I have experienced the positive impact of quality counseling in my own life, and I strive to provide this level of care for each of my clients. I am passionate about the power of the therapeutic relationship and the growth that can occur when we nurture our minds.

My Theoretical Approach

While I have a strong theoretical foundation in psychodynamic and insight-oriented approaches, I like to tailor my framework to each client’s needs, personality, and communication style. I integrate elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as needed.

My overarching approach to counseling is casual over clinical.  I take a collaborative and strengths-based approach with the understanding that you are the expert of your own life.

Services

I offer both individual and couples counseling for adolescents and adults residing in Florida. While many issues arise and unravel within therapy, I frequently work with clients experiencing difficulties associated with identity development, family relationships, romantic relationships, depression, anxiety, trauma, and generally adjusting to life events such as divorce, loss of a loved one, or career change. I currently offer virtual sessions through a HIPAA compliant platform called SimplePractice.

I am considered out of network for insurance companies, but may provide you with confirmation of services (what we call a “superbill”) for reimbursement from your insurance company. Please ask about a superbill in our initial conversation or meeting if that is something you are interested in utilizing. All payments, superbills, and invoices will be processed and delivered electronically to make things as convenient and transparent as possible for you.

If you are interested in booking a session, please call, text, or email me and I will get back to you within 48 hours.

I offer a free 10 minute consultation prior to booking an initial session.
